BROKEN PROMISES: DEPORTED VETERANS IN TIJUANA
19 minute work-in-progress (2020)
In early November 2019 I took a trip to Tijuana, Mexico with my sister-in-law/photographer, Judith Williams Sandoval to explore the question of American military veterans who have been deported in the past twenty years. Although these veterans were promised citizenship as part of their enlistment into the US military this promise was never fulfilled. Some of these veterans have fought (and in some cases were wounded) in the wars in Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan. But their honorable service did not prevent their deportation.
